Step Inside Design calls Marc English “the Johnny Cash of AIGAâ€, referring to him as “teacher, preacher, shaman, showman.†The 20th anniversary issue of HOW listed him as one of “20 Designers We’d Like to Have a Beer With.†Why is that? Come and find out. English has built his reputation by creating a body of work that focuses on identity — the heart and soul of any individual, institution or corporation and is author of Designing Identity: Graphic Design as Business Strategy, and last spoke in OKC hot on thet heels of the book’s release in ’98.
English’s work can also be found in the collections of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg, Germany, the Merrill C. Berman Collection, New York, and the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitano, México City.
English has served as a director of the AIGA, and as President of both the Boston and Austin chapter. He is also a member of the Massachusetts College of Art National Alumni Council and sits on the board of directors of the Austin Film Society. English has taught at the university level for more than a decade, in Boston and Austin, and currently teaches graduate studies at the Academy of Art University, in San Francisco. He continues to travel and lecture frequently, and was the first U.S. designer to speak at both Guatemala and Tijuana’s premier design conferences.
Thanks to Wolf Mailing and Marc English for making this event possible.
